The study of posture offers a great deal of information on health as well as many therapeutic possibilities. This study is not limited to the observation of the body in the three dimensions of space. It also extends to the analysis of the different portals to the Tonic Postural System.
Discovering the concept of posture it is understanding that the body is a total structure, indivisible in its functions on all levels: biomechanical, neurophysiological, psychic and energetic.
The eye associates a sensory exteroception and a muscular proprioception. In fact, trouble with oculomotricity (lazy eye syndrome) can lead to visual fatigue, problems with concentration or balance, hyperactivity in a child leading to failure in school – and also, imbalance in the posture. An asymetry in the tension of the eye muscles has repercussions on the entire muscular chain, affecting posture, and as well, the jaw muscles.
Clinical observations in posturology demonstrate that our feet adapt to all underlying imbalances in the body. Until today, the feet are still thought of, and treated as a cause… rather than as being a manifestation of a underlying problem. These notions call into question the many mechanical adjustments done at the level of the feet!
The integrity of the mandible leads to good balance between the occiput, the cervicals and the thoracic vertebrae. This system is often neglected due to lack of knowledge of its interactions with the entire muscular system, and its effect on toning this system. This is why it is imperative that dentists, especially those who specialize in occlusion rehabilitation, should know about the proper functioning of the TPS.
Some scar tissue can lead to postural imbalance, either because of cutaneous exteroception or underlying adherences, as well as muscular, joint, neurovegetative or hormonal imbalances.
In actual practice, numerous patients suffering from chronic pain do not get better, simply because their TPS is incapable of compensating, in some cases permanently. They will remain that way no matter what treatment they receive, unless the TPS is factored into the equation and unless a reprogramming of the TPS takes place in order to find a newer, acceptable equilibrium.
An understanding and knowledge of all of the aforementioned statements comes from European researches, which began in the 80’s. This explains why the study of Posturology is, as yet, not well-known, and little used. Techniques used in Posturology have been mastered since almost ten years now, and they continue to stir interest and amaze professionals who have an open mind, and who truly wish to help their patients.
We can actually modify a footprint by modifying tension in the eye muscles, by manipulating scar tissue, by altering an occlusion or simply by adjusting eyeglasses! In the same way, we can modify dental contact or occlusions by working with the feet, the eyes, or by adjusting a shortened leg!
Treating mechanical causes relative to the TPS, and not the symptoms, allows for a more efficacious therapy – in the short, medium and long term. As well, Posturology is complementary to all therapeutic approaches. Correcting the TPS can contribute to the success of any other treatment.
This training is geared, first and foremost, to those therapists who are directly concerned with treatment of chronic pain, but as well to dentists, denturologists, athletic trainers and all therapists seeking to deepen their knowledge base.
Posturepro is dedicated to providing the most cutting edge treatment techniques available in the field of alternative healthcare, as well as maintaining leadership in the development of innovative new techniques to treat pain. Posturology combines fifty years of clinical and educational experience with chronic and acute pain syndromes.
All of the techniques used at Posturepro are non-surgical, and non-invasive and are centered around balancing the body structurally by addressing the largest of the body’s systems, the muscular system.
